KAMPAR, 12 April 2019 – Affin Hwang Capital, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Macquarie Capital Securities (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (Macquarie) held an event last night to celebrate their partnership forming a Uni-Broker team participating in the Inter-Varsity Stock Challenge 2019. This competition, organised by N2N Connect Berhad and supported by Bursa Malaysia Berhad, pits three (3) universities competing for prizes worth up to RM120,000.00.
The competition brings together interested university students and brokers, whose role is to provide guidance and expose these budding future investors with hands-on experience in the capital market and thereby gaining invaluable practical knowledge.
Throughout the competition period from May to July 2019, participating students from UTAR will be guided by Affin Hwang Capital’s Research Analysts and Dealer Representatives to learn, experience, share and discuss trading ideas and strategies, with the objective of helping the students to establish a foothold in economic and financial concepts of the stock market.
Macquarie, the leading structured warrant issuer in Malaysia, introduced students to structured warrants in a presentation at the event last night and will be conducting a workshop for students who are interested in incorporating warrants into their strategy.
“Affin Hwang Capital is excited to be partnering with a well-established tertiary education institution such as UTAR for this first-of-its-kind virtual stock challenge. We look forward in bringing together the bright minds of the students of UTAR, with our team’s experience in the capital market and Macquarie’s international experience in the warrants market, to be a formidable team in this competition,” said Wong Yoke Weng, Managing Director of Securities at Affin Hwang Capital. “But most importantly, it is an opportune moment for the students to learn and experience the capital markets first-hand with guidance from our analysts and dealers. This will provide them with a head start in exploring possible career opportunities in the capital market in the near future.”
“We also commend N2N Connect Berhad for organising this pioneering stock challenge competition. Together with the strong support from Bursa Malaysia, we are confident that it will be a success,” he added.
YBhg. Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia said, “Bursa Malaysia has continuously placed significant emphasis on investor education as part of the overall effort to increase the nation’s financial literacy level and to build a pool of well-informed investors. Bursa Malaysia has established 24 Bursa Young Investors Club (‘BYIC’) in universities nationwide to create awareness about investment in the capital market amongst tertiary students. Hence, it gives us great pleasure to support this inter-varsity stock challenge given the hands-on experience that the participating university students will be exposed to.”
Johann Sze, Head of Equity Derivative Products of Macquarie said, “We are pleased to be a part of the Inter-Varsity Stock Challenge 2019 as our focus remains on education of structured warrants. We are committed to raising awareness about structured warrants and continuously educating the public. Through educating interested students on warrants via our workshop, we hope to provide participants an opportunity to expand their investment horizons.”
